Parent’s Guide to Student Achievement

The following are the relevant state and local requirements for a student to be promoted to the next grade level. The relevant part of this link is found in Part 1A (pages 15-28) regarding retention and promotion: State and Local Promotion Requirements.

In North Carolina, all public schools use the same Standard Course of Study, determined by the State Board of Education. These standards are the knowledge and skills students should understand by the end of each grade/course.  

The standards can be found on the NCDPI Office of Academic Standards website.  Relevant standards for TMSA’s curriculum include:

TMSA Public Charter Schools and teachers determine how to teach these standards, including curriculum, textbooks, and supplementary materials. The following curriculum resources are available to parents to support their child at home in order to partner with the school.

TMSA PCS shares student progress through a variety of ways, including progress reports in the middle of each quarter, report cards at the end of each quarter, parent teacher conferences and assignment/test feedback. Please also refer to our school calendar for more information.

We also communicate with parents and send information through ParentSquare such as progress reports, report cards, MAP, BOG, NCExtend,  EOG, EOC, MClass, RtA, WIDA ACCESS etc.

Parents can also check Infinite Campus for more information on student progress and performance. Feedback on conduct is also provided through personal emails and phone calls.

MAP Testing: NWEA MAP Testing is given to all eligible students in all eligible subjects 3 times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring). The data collected from MAP testing is used to analyze student growth and student performance. Below you will find important information regarding MAP testing.

Following each testing period, parents will receive a Family Report and Progress Report showing a summary of how their child is performing academically. All TMSA PCS teachers are licensed and qualified to teach pursuant to State law.

Requirements for enrollments: student's birth certificate, parent driver's license/passport, current utility bill, lease, mortgage document etc. Immunization and NC Health Assessment (for all Kindergarteners or any student new to NC schools)

Immunizations For School-Age Children

Parents can support the students by making reviews at home. Parents can reach out to the teachers for additional resources in order to help the students home. They should keep in touch with their kids' teachers.

In our schools, Leader in Me is a primary vehicle for ensuring the durable skills are addressed and that student leadership is a focus.

Parents can support their child by familiarizing themselves with the following tool and connect with school: 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families

By supporting the school's high expectations and collaborating with the teachers and school staff on an ongoing basis. TMSA  Leader in Me framework focuses on a  holistic, and whole-child teaching approach that is focused on student college readiness. It prepares our students to be successful in real life situations, and reach their lifelong goals. Our students set their goals and monitor their progress that helps them take ownership of their learning process: Leader in Me

Parents can regularly check ParentSquare for updates and messages and use the messaging tool to reach out to the teachers and the admin team. Parents are also encouraged to attend all school-initiated sessions and be present for opportunities such as parent teacher conferences. Checking Infinite Campus for student work, attendance, behavior etc. is highly recommended for tracking student progress and being in communication with the teachers as necessary.

Volunteering, chaperoning on field trips, visiting classrooms, and helping students and teachers, joining quarterly meetings, sharing their feedback with the administration, etc.

School posts the curriculum and resources on the website. Parents are welcome to ask additional questions to receive more information. They can get more information and resources by reaching out to the teachers and administration. Charter Schools Charter schools are public schools of choice that are authorized by the State Board of Education and operated by independent non-profit boards of directors. State and local tax dollars are the primary funding sources for charter schools, which have open enrollment and cannot discriminate in admissions, associate with any religion or religious group, or charge tuition. Charter schools operate with freedom from many of the regulations that govern district schools, but charter schools are held accountable through the State assessment and accountability system.

Nonpublic Education and Scholarship Grants Nonpublic education is overseen by the NC Department of Administration.
